Why Sapper Insurance
A benefits partner built for the work after the quote.
Sapper Insurance is a veteran-owned brokerage that pairs modern comparison tools with responsive, human support.
A small business. A bigger purpose.
Sapper Insurance began with a simple conviction: small businesses deserve someone in their corner. Behind every benefits decision are people building a livelihood, caring for their families, and looking after a team. We want to make that responsibility a little easier to carry.
For owner Matt Childs, that purpose grows out of his faith and his service in the U.S. Army. Both shaped a belief that our work should serve others, and that looking after people is a responsibility worth taking personally. Sapper brings that conviction to employers of every background through honest guidance, attentive service, and follow-through.
We aim to be an extension of your team: someone who picks up the phone, listens carefully, and stays involved after the plan is chosen. Helping a small business care for its people is work we believe matters.
The meaning behind Sapper
The name dates to military engineers who dug protected trenches, called saps, toward fortifications. Their work grew to include using explosives to breach defenses. In the U.S. Army, Sappers carry on that combat-engineering tradition: clearing obstacles, conducting demolitions, building bridges, and helping fellow Soldiers move forward. Expertise with explosives is an important part of that broader mission. The Sapper Leader Course develops the leadership and technical skills needed for this demanding work.
Matt completed that demanding Sapper training and earned the Sapper tab. He proudly wore it while serving in the Army, including two deployments to Afghanistan as an explosives expert. That experience connects Sapper Insurance’s name to a personal history of preparation, responsibility, and service to the people beside him.
A tab earned through dedication
The Army identifies four individual skill and marksmanship tabs: Special Forces, Ranger, President’s Hundred, and Sapper. Earned tabs are worn on the left sleeve, subject to Army uniform rules. Matt’s Sapper tab represents the training and commitment behind the name of our veteran-owned brokerage.

The trust is earned in the moments that do not fit a script.
We believe employers deserve a broker who answers the phone, owns the follow-through, and helps benefits feel manageable for everyone involved.
That approach earned Sapper Insurance recognition as 425 Business Insurance Brokerage of the Year in 2025 and 2026. It is also how we intend to show up for every client.
